The New Macomb
Data Driven Detroit provided and interpreted data for the study of “The New Macomb County,” a Kresge Foundation-funded project of the Macomb Community College and the Macomb County Executive. The data collection and analysis began early in 2012. The final report was released on December 12, 2012.
This project is a follow-up to the College’s studies of the 1990 and 2000 Censuses, documenting the demographic and socioeconomic changes in Macomb County. These changes accelerated between 2000 and 2010, driven by the economic downturn, elevated unemployment, and increased foreclosure. Changes include a rapidly increasing population of color, driven by both migration out of Detroit and immigration from Iraq, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Europe.
